If it has been installed, updating (overwrite-installing) may fix problems, add new functions, or expand existing ones. It is probably ok both ways, because the problem is with the touchpad hardware, and not with the mouse driver or something, so when you start using the USB for mouse connection, the problem is.

Redesigned and rechargeable, Magic Trackpad 2 includes a built-in battery and brings Force Touch to the desktop for the first time. Four force sensors underneath the trackpad surface allow you to click anywhere, and detect subtle differences in the amount of pressure you apply, bringing increased functionality to your fingertips and enabling a deeper connection to your content. Magic Trackpad 2 also features an edge-to-edge glass surface area that is nearly 30 per cent larger than the previous trackpad. This design, along with a lower profile, makes scrolling and swiping through your favorite content more productive and comfortable than ever. Does everything great except click and drag!

Unfortunately, I do quite a bit - and each time I press to 'click and drag'; the file opens, or previews, or gives me a definition, etc. Click too light, nothing happens. Click too hard, it does everything but pick up what I'm selecting to drag. I have to keep my magic mouse next to my new trackpad just for clicking and dragging. Great concept - not executed to the 'it just works' Apple standard.

Needless to say, I didn't return this one.

This is a beautiful trackpad. It feels like an upgrade to my MacBook Pro trackpad. And it worked perfectly directly out of the box. As far as claims of glitchy connections with the laptop, I've dealt with a lot of glitchy wireless mice in the past even to the point that I finally went back to completely hard wired.

This one, however, is not glitchy! It is rock solid. From the moment I turned it on, it connected with my MacBook Pro and was super responsive and precise. The only time I had an issue with it dropping connection to the laptop was as it neared the end of the battery charge. It would connect and disconnect over and over again. I plugged it in and charged it, but it kept doing the same thing. So I switched it off and back on and it was as good as new, solid, precise, perfect.

A lot of reviewers complained about the click and drag. Let me clarify. This is a 'force touch' trackpad. It gives you one functionality with a light touch and a different one with a heavy touch. It can take some getting used to.

Click and drag requires a light touch. If you tend to click heavy when you drag, place the finger of one hand lightly on the pad for 'click' and use the finger of your other hand for 'drag.' My guess is that it won't be long until you are clicking and dragging like a pro one-handed. So don't believe all the negative reviews. This is a really super trackpad, and I think you'll love it.

Random clicks happen all the time and half the time instead of a regular click or worse a double click it registers a right click. Scrolling with 2 fingers sometimes causes it to think I am using 3 fingers which it then takes several seconds to recover from.

And as for force clicking, previewing is almost never what I want to do. After about 5 minutes of it popping up unexpectedly I disabled it (I find force touch a little frustrating on my iPhone 6s+ too but I got used to it). I hate to sound so negative but the whole reason I use Apple products is for the ease of use factor and this trackpad significantly interferes with my ability to get things done.

It suffers from the common problem you hear about on the internet of not being able to swipe between pages. Most times it is able to partially show the previous website when you swipe to go back to the previous website but never allows you to perform the gesture. You end of having to use the back arrow to get to the previous page. Apple did a terrible job on these new trackpads. More (Read full review). Written by Charles B from Brookfield. The haptic clicking is awesome, and click-dragging/selecting is actually pleasant and efficient. Overall this trackpad is a good solution to navigating around multiple big monitors. More (Read full review). Written by Douglas P from Ashland. Sep 14, 2018 5 of 5 people found this useful.
